How come some companies are offering a free security system?

A - Nothing is free! Generally, the cheaper the installation cost, the more you'll pay for monthly monitoring (and the longer your contract will be). You'll also pay a steeper price for additional sensors, and may even be charged for monitoring by the number and type of sensors you install. Also watch out for "connection" fees, monitoring rate escalation clauses in the contract and very high service charges if you have a problem...and make sure you're BUYING, not leasing, and your equipment. Lastly, ask if they're installing "Proprietary" equipment. If they are, you'll be tied to that company forever, unless you pay for a new panel, since the programming prohibits any other company from taking over monitoring. Also, beware of new companies, or ones from out of the area, if you want to be sure that your warranty will be honored, your account won't be sold to someone else, and there will be service available after the sale.
